Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - April 3, 2024

To get the best water levels in the Shenandoah National Park go into the headwaters of the streams off the Skyline Drive. All of the trails and roads are open again after recent fires but check their website for updates as conditions can easily change. There are several hatches occurring this month and we are taking advantage of it. Recommended flies: Mr. Rapidan Parachute size 14, Blue Quill Dry size 16, Mr. Rapidan Delta Wing Caddis, Olive size 14, March Brown Dry size 14. If you prefer nymph fishing use a Mr. Rapidan Soft Hackle, Brown size 14 or March Brown Nymph size 14. Fish these on Murray's Mountain Leader 6ft 5X. The Park has asked (starting this year) that we mash the barbs down on our flies or use barbless hooks.
