Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - August 23, 2023
Share
Earlier this week I decided to take a ride and check out a few streams in the Shenandoah National Park. I was surprised that some areas seemed to have received more rain than others therefore some streams were okay to fish and others were not worth the effort. The bottom of the Rose River is one that I would recommend for this time of year. Plan to use ant and beetle patterns such as Mr. Rapidan Ant size 18, Murray's Flying Beetle size 16 or Parachute Black Ant size 16 on a 6X Classic 7.5ft leader.
Stay low and hide your approach. The trout are wary. The water temperature on Monday was around 62 degrees. Of course if you go earlier in the morning or later in the evening the conditions will be better than in the heat of the day.
If you need help on where to go or access, stop by the fly shop or see my book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park.
