Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - June 1, 2024

The native brook trout streams in the Shenandoah National Park are still fishable but the water levels are starting to drop. Earlier this week, I had some wonderful fishing with Murray's Flying Beetle size 16 and Mr. Rapidan Ant size 16 on a Murray's Classic 7.5ft 6X Leader. 

There are still many little yellow stoneflies in our mountain streams that the trout are feeding on. In order to locate the largest concentrations of little yellow stonefly nymphs look for the shady sections of the mountain streams where the underwater boulders are covered with moss. Fish a Murray's Little Yellow Stonefly Dry size 16 on a 6X leader with a slack line cast and you'll catch many trout.

The water temperature is running around 58 degrees. It is very important that you hide your approach. These trout are very wary and by using a stealthy approach you have a better chance.
