Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - June 16 2022

The olive caddis (sometimes called a green sedge) are hatching well and a Mr. Rapidan Olive Delta Wing Caddis size 14 fished upstream dead drift in the tail of the pool will catch many of them. I was in the Shenandoah National Park earlier this week and in addition to the caddis, the Murray's Flying Beetle and Mr. Rapidan Ant size 16 were working well. The fish are wary so hide your approach and sneak, sneak, sneak. I am using a Classic 7.5ft 6X leader.
The Shenandoah National Park streams are in beautiful shape whether you come in from the Skyline Drive or from the lower boundaries. This is a good time to hike into the streams and plan an overnight camping trip. If you can stay on the stream until dark you can get some good fishing. Whether you stay overnight or just visit the Park for the day, please be respectful and pick up your trash.
The native brook trout stream west of our fly shop in the George Washington National Forest is in good shape and will remain that way as long as we continue to get some rain.
