Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - June 5, 2024

The native brook trout streams in the Shenandoah National Park are in good shape right now but if we do not get some rain soon they will start dropping. Hide your approach and stay as low as you can to the ground. Try not to fish behind someone. What they didn't catch they have already spooked. The Sulphur hatch is still occurring so a Shenk's Sulphur or Murray's Sulphur Dry size 16 will work. Ant and beetle patterns are working well-- Murray's Flying Beetle size 16 and Mr. Rapidan Ant size 16. Some of my customers are having success on the Stubby Chubby in a size 16--try them and see what you think. I have switched over to 6X leaders.
For more information on these streams, see my book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park.
I realize that we are just starting summer but we have already had customers calling about the Mountain Trout School Dates for Spring 2025. The dates are listed on our website for both the Shenandoah National Park and George Washington National Forest streams.
