Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - May 10, 2023
Share
The mountain trout streams are in great shape. You can either come into them from the Skyline Drive or from the lower boundaries of the streams. See my book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park for more information on access or stop by the fly shop. I was in the Park earlier this week and the water temperature was around 52 degrees. There is a caddisfly hatch, light cahill hatch, and little yellow stonefly hatch occurring so watch for those. Productive flies this week in our personal fishing and trout schools include: Mr. Rapidan Delta Wing Caddis Olive size 16, Spirit of Pittsford Mill size 16, Murray's Flying Beetle size 14 and believe it or not the Murray's Purple Dun size 16. Nymphs that are working well include Perdigon Nymph in size 12 or 14, Bead Head Price size 14, and Bead Head Hare's Ear Nymph size 14. I have switched to 6X leaders.
