Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - September 23, 2021

An effective ploy when there are few hatches on the native brook trout streams is to fish a Mr. Rapidan Ant size 18 with a Copper John Zebra Nymph size 18 on a two foot 6X dropper below it.  I have also done well with the Murray's Flying Beetle size 16 and Mr. Rapidan Parachute size 16.  The water temperature earlier this week was 61 degrees.  You can access these streams from the top or the bottom of the Shenandoah National Park.  For more information on access to these streams see my book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park.  Keep in mind the brook trout will start spawning in the next few weeks, so I try not to fish these streams when they are spawning.
