Smallmouth Bass Fly Fishing Report - Update for August 13, 2024
Share
Update for 8/13/24 The North Fork is back to normal levels and the fishing is great. The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is a little stained but the water levels are returning to normal quickly. I expect by Wednesday evening into Thursday the fishing will okay on the South Fork.
There is some grass on our smallmouth rivers but you can catch some nice bass by fishing a Shenandoah Blue Popper size 4 or Shenandoah Chartreuse Chugger size 4 in the open water. This is the time of year I like to fish a topwater bug with a 2ft 2X dropper below it. Here are some of the dropper rigs I experiment with.
- Shenandoah Blue Popper >>>Murray's Hellgrammite size 8
- Shenandoah Chartreuse Chugger >>>Olive Dragonfly Nymph
- Mr. Rapidan Skater >>>Mr. Rapidan Soft Hackle (Olive) Nymph size 10
- Murray's Bass Hopper >>>Rubber Leg Nymph (Brown) size 8
- Murray's Damselfly Dry >>>Bass Caddis Nymph
