Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - April 24, 2024
Share
This week we've picked up a few nice bass while floating the river. The water levels on both the North Fork and the South Fork of the Shenandoah River are perfect. If you want to wade, head to the North Fork. If you want to float, head to the South Fork. The Murray's Marauder in olive and pearl size 6, Shenk's White Streamer size 6, and Murray's Heavy Hellgrammite size 4 are the recommended flies. Fish all of these on a Bright Butt 9ft 2X leader. Water temperature is running around high 50's. As the water starts to get warmer over the next few weeks, the smallmouth will start to spawn. It is very important to return the bass to the river. These bass are to valuable to be caught only once. After all, these large smallmouth bass are the best spawners.
