Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - August 3, 2022
Share
The North and South Fork of the Shenandoah River are clear and fishable. We have been receiving a few showers off and on over the last few days which have helped the streams. The North Fork of the Shenandoah River has been doing well wading from Chapman's Landing down to the Seven Bends State Park (Lupton access) in Woodstock. The South Fork of the Shenandoah River has been fishing better than the North Fork this week. There are many places to wade or float this Fork. Plan to be on the river early in the morning, late in the evening, or fish around the shady banks in the afternoon. Bass do not like the bright sunshine. This week the Clouser Crayfish (olive), Murray's Crayfish (olive), Shenk's White Streamer, and Shenandoah Blue Popper were productive.
While you are on the river, watch for tailing carp as we discussed in the stream report last week. Try fishing a Murray's Olive Marauder size 10 and see how you do.
I only have a few openings left in our Full Day Fly Fishing Schools for this summer. These start at our fly shop in Edinburg at 9a.m. with a classroom presentation on reading the water, equipment, flies, & knot tying. Then a short drive to the river for a casting lesson and hands on instruction until 5p.m. Fly Rod and Reels are provided for the day.
