Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report -July 24, 2024
Share
With the lower water levels we currently have we have switched to lighter nymphs, streamers, and top water flies. Plan to be on the water early in the morning and late in the evening for the best results. If you are fishing during the day, fish along the shady banks and downed trees. The best underwater flies include Rubber Leg Nymph, Brown size 8, Shenk's White Streamer size 6, and Murray's Crayfish Olive size 6. Best top water flies include Shenandoah Blue Popper size 6, Murray's Bass Popper (Frog), Murray's Bass Hopper size 8, Murray's Dragonfly Dry size 6. Fish all of these on a Bright Butt 9ft 2X leader or Classic 9ft 2X leader.
The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable. Concentrate on the Mount Jackson to Woodstock area. There is an algae bloom occurring around Toms Brook to Strasburg and they are recommending that you stay out of the river in these areas. The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable. Both Forks are low for this time of year so wade as carefully as you can.
