Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - June 26, 2024

Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - June 26, 2024

The smallmouth bass streams are very clear and the levels are dropping. However, we are catching some large bass by getting on the river at dawn. Hit the shaded banks with the Shenandoah Chartreuse Chugger size 4 or Shenandoah Blue Popper size 6. You will probably see some hellgrammite eggs on the tree leaves along the stream. Hellgrammites have a 3-year life cycle so they are always in the river. Fish a Murray's Heavy Hellgrammite Black size 6 as deeply as you can in water 4-6ft deep.  If you cannot make it to the river in the early morning, then plan to fish the last 2 hours before dark. Fish all of these on a Bright Butt 9ft 2X leader.

Wade as carefully as you can as the bass are very wary with the low water conditions. As of today 10:30a.m. the North and South Fork of the Shenandoah River are clear and fishable. The North Fork is fishing better in the Edinburg and Woodstock area with the current conditions.  The South Fork would be better for kayaking/wading trips.
