Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - March 10, 2022

The most productive parts of the river to catch large bass now are the back eddies which form below strong riffles but on the side of the river with the slow currents. Basically these are Lazy Susans ranging from 10-60 feet in diameter and from 4-8 feet deep. The natural hellgrammites which wash out of these riffles are often swept into these back eddies where the bass feed. The Murray's Heavy Black Hellgrammite size 4 fished on a Sink Tip III line or a fast sinking head line will work best.
Even though the water temperature is still cool, I have had a few customers saying they have caught one or two during the day on a float trip.
We are booking wading and floating guided trips on the Shenandoah River starting in May to October. We also have openings in our Full Day Fly Fishing Lessons for Summer 2022.
