Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - March 3, 2022
Share
Even though it is early in the season, I have had a few customers saying they are catching a few bass on the Shenandoah River. With these warmer days, who wouldn't want to be out on the stream. The water is still cold so bring your chest high waders and plan to fish the deeper pockets in between the rock ledges that run across the river. The water levels are perfect for floating in a canoe or kayak which might help you get to some of the deeper pools. By using a Murray's Heavy Hellgrammite, Black size 4 or 6 with a Sink Tip III or a Sinking Head Line you can easily swim your fly along the stream bottom.
Both the North Fork and the South Fork of the Shenandoah River are clear and fishable. For more information on access to these, stop by the fly shop or see my book Virginia Blue Ribbon Streams.
