Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - March 6, 2024

With the water levels that we currently have, many anglers like to get their kayaks and head to the river. This time of year you can explore many areas of the river without alot of other anglers in the way. Although the bass are not feeding actively like they do in the summer, some are starting to move into areas to feed on shiner minnows. When you see the bass chasing the shiners, cast a Silver Outcast size 4 five feet out in front of the bass and strip it to life with your line hand. Often he'll take your fly right away. If he does not, you can get 2 more casts into that area before you scare him.
The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and has good water levels. Suitable for wading or floating. Be aware of the dams on the river that are not legal or safe to go around before deciding on a float trip.
The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is still carrying some extra water.
