Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - November 14, 2024
Share
This is the time of year that I start referring to my stream notes. Where did I go last year at this time, what flies did I use, and were they productive? I have many seasons of stream notes and by referring to these I can find the most productive areas. The smallmouth are moving to the deeper holes with the colder water temperatures. Heavy flies such as Murray's Tungsten Cone Head Marauder size 4, Skulpin Bunnys, and Murray's Heavy Hellgramite (Black) size 4 allow me to get my flies down deep to strip across the stream bottom. The smallmouth fishing is tapering off for the season, but I have some customers that just enjoy being on the river no matter if they catch a bass or not.
The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable from Mount Jackson, VA to Front Royal, VA. Bring your chest high waders and plan to wade to the deeper pools.
The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable. I like to wade and/or float with a kayak near the Bealers Ferry and Fosters Landing areas but there are many areas to explore on this river.
If you need help on access or want to hire a fishing guide, stop by the fly shop or see my book Fly Fishing the Shenandoah River for Smallmouth Bass.
