Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - November 16, 2022

The Shenandoah Valley got some much needed rain last week.  The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is what I like to say "full but fishable".  The color is good but it still has some extra volume.  Just be careful on your wading or floating.  The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is still at higher levels so I would recommend waiting a few more days to allow the water flow to return to somewhat normal. 

If you want any chance of catching a bass, fish in the deepest pools and use a sink tip III fly line.  This will help you get your flies down deep along the stream bottom in the water levels we have at this time. The Murray's Magnum Hog Sucker,  Murray's Magnum Darter, and Murray's Bass Stonefly Nymph size 4 work well. 

Try to fish in the afternoon after the sun has warmed the water a little.  Definitely bring your chest high waders and if needed, a wading staff for stability.
