Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - November 22, 2022

The smallmouth streams are getting cold and their metabolism is slowing down.  Therefore this will be the last report I do on the smallmouth bass streams until next spring once the water temperatures start to rise. I have a few residents that just enjoy being on the river no matter what time of year.  The bass are holding in the deepest pools they can find.  Therefore you will have your best chance by floating the river and anchoring just upstream of the deep pool.  Fish a Murray's Tungsten Cone Head Marauder size 4 or a Skulpin Bunny along the stream bottom in these deep pools.  These provide a big mouthful and will hopefully tempt the bass to feed. Try using a sinking tip III fly line with a Murray's Fluorocarbon Sinking 2X Leader.

Both the North and South Fork of the Shenandoah River are clear and fishable.  If you need help on access, stop by the fly shop or see my book Virginia Blue Ribbon Streams.

We have already formed some of our Full Day Smallmouth Bass Fly Fishing Schools for June 2023.  Register today or give the Gift of Fly Fishing by getting a gift certificate for a school.

Our fly shop in Edinburg, VA will be closing at 1p.m. on November 23 and be closed on November 24, 2022 for Thanksgiving.
