Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - Update October 12, 2024
Share
The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is in perfect condition for some good smallmouth bass fly fishing. There are many public access places from Mount Jackson to Strasburg for wading. Bring your chest high waders as the water temperature is around low 60's. Use a Murray's Heavy Hellgrammite size 6, Murray's Olive Marauder size 6 or Murray's Magnum Chartreuse Streamer size 4 below the riffles with a slow line hand stripping action. If you want to enjoy a short kayak float, put in at the Hollingsworth access of the Seven Bends State Park and take out at the Lupton access.
Update October 12: The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is clearing and fishable by floating. It is still carrying extra water so I wouldn't recommend wading until the end of next week.
