Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - September 27, 2024

Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - September 27, 2024

SEE UPDATES BELOW ON STREAM CONDITIONS.  The rain showers are helping the streams and we are taking advantage of the smallmouth bass fishing while it lasts. Poppers are working well on the cloudy days. Shenandoah Blue Popper size 4, Shenandoah Chartreuse Chugger size 6, and Murray's Frog Chugger size 6 are working well on a Bright Butt 9ft 2X leader.  I have had customers asking if I leave the weed guard on the poppers. I typically cut the weed guard off before fishing as I don't feel I need it on Virginia's streams. Underwater flies that are working well include: Murray's Chartreuse Marauder size 6, Murray's Heavy Hellgrammite size 6, Murray's Pearl Marauder size 6, and Rubber Leg Nymph Brown size 8.

9/27/24 10a.m.The North Fork of the Shenandoah River in Edinburg is currently muddy and higher than normal by looking off the Rt 675 bridge. More rain is expected today so we will post updates as the conditions change.

9/27/24 10a.m.The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is currently too high and muddy to fish.  We will post updates as the conditions change.

If you need help on access, stop by the fly shop or see my book Fly Fishing the Shenandoah River for Smallmouth Bass.

In need of a new Smallmouth Bass Fly Rod & Reel Outfit?  The St. Croix Connect 9ft 7-weight outfit or the Orvis Clearwater 9ft 7-weight outfit are great for beginners and for those on a budget.
