Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - December 9, 2021

There is always a temptation to go big fish hunting shortly after the State has stocked the streams. An effective ploy is to head for the deep pools and fish a Shenandoah Skunk Streamer size 10 or a Shenandoah Silver Ghost Streamer size 10 along the stream bottom on a sink tip line. If you see the Blue Wing Olives hatching, put on a Blue Wing Olive Baetis size 16. Watch for rising trout in the back eddies and slow parts of the pools. Fishing a Murray's Dark Stonefly Dry size 16 with a Copper John, Zebra size 18 as a dropper is another effective tactic.
All of the local stocked trout streams are clear and fishable. The Hawksbill in Page County was just recently stocked along with the North Fork of the Shenandoah River near Fulks Run in Rockingham County.
