Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - January 5, 2022

Happy New Year from Murray's Fly Shop! With the New Year came some snow. The slowly melting snow is helping the stream levels, providing some excellent stream conditions in the stocked trout streams. Just be careful as you are walking along the streams as there is still some snow along the edges providing some slippery conditions.
Many of the largest trout move into the deep slow pools and feed on the nymph they find here. To make it worthwhile for thee large trout I like to use flies that provide a mouthful such as the Murray's Skunk Road Kill Nymph size 8 and Mr. Rapidan Soft Hackle Nymph (Brown) size 10. Fishing these nymphs upstream dead drift is an excellent technique when there is normal water levels.
I have many customers that prefer smaller nymphs. The Murray's Dark Stonefly Nymph size 14 and Casual Dress Nymph size 12 are very effective on a Classic 7.5ft 5X leader.
If you need help on the areas to fish local to our fly shop in Edinburg, stop by and we will show you on the maps where to go.
