Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 28, 2021

The baetis hatch is on and many anglers are taking advantage of this exciting action. During the bright sunny days, when the hatch may be sparse, I have a good friend who does real well with the Mr. Rapidan Soft Hackle Nymph (Olive) size 16. His technique is very simple but it is quite effective.
Wading downstream along the side of the river where he sees a few emerging duns he cast down and across stream at a twenty degree angle using a floating line with a Murray's Fluorocarbon 9ft 5X Leader. Using a slow two-inch lifting motion every five seconds he swims his fly across the current. It is amazing how many trout he catches with this method.
All of the local stocked trout steams are clear and fishable. For more information on the streams that have been stocked, visit the Virginia DWR website. For access on the local streams, stop by the fly shop to look at our master map.
