Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 6, 2021

The Virginia DWR has stocked many large trout throughout some of the streams. They will continue to stock other streams throughout the state the rest of this month.  Local to our fly shop--Passage Creek in Fort Valley, VA off of Rt. 678 was just stocked today with rainbows.  Make sure you have your trout license, freshwater license and in some cases you will need the National Forest permit to fish these streams.

My favorite way to cover all of the best feeding stations is with a streamer such as the Shenandoah Skunk Streamer size 10. I start below a major riffle and casting across stream wade slowly downstream. I repeat this cast every 3 to 4 feet and strip my streamer 6 inches every 5 seconds. This shows my fly to every trout in the stream. I use a Classic 9ft 4X leader on these streams with my streamers.

For a complete list of the streams that have recently been stocked see the Virginia DWR website.
