Stocked Trout Streams Report - November 4, 2021

The natural cress bug is one of the most nutritional foods the trout feed upon. One day I asked my fishing partner to scoop his hands one time along the side of volleyball size stone of the stream bottom and hold them so I could get a photo. We were impressed with the numbers of cress bugs. Easily over 200 cress bugs.
Fishing a Shenandoah Sowbug size 14 and 16 and a Cress Bug size 14 or 16 for one hundred feet downstream of the springs where the cress bugs are found will help you catch many large trout.
I often like to use streamers along the riffles. A Betsy Streamer or Mr. Rapidan Streamer size 10 works well here.
All of the local stocked trout streams are clear and fishable. For the latest stocking schedule visit the Virginia DWR website. If you need help finding access, stop by the fly shop or see my book Virginia Blue Ribbon Streams.
