UPDATE: High Water
Share
8:00am 4/29/2023 The rain from 4/28/23 has brought the rivers levels up on both the North and South Fork of the Shenandoah. The levels on the North Fork are great North of Edinburg but will rise to a full level and become discolored 2:00pm today. The South Fork of the Shenandoah is coming up and will be high for fishing this afternoon.
Your best bet on either river is to stay as far downstream as possible (Woodstock to the North on the North Fork & North of Bentonville on the South Fork) since the majority of the excess water is coming from the southern tributaries. Check the streamflow gauges or give us a call before 3:00pm today if you need help deciding where to go.
As for the Brook Trout streams, they're in great shape but if you feel you have too much water where you plan to fish, head upstream to get away from some of the excess water. Don't hesitate to go with a Perdigon or Tungsten Jigged Head Hares Ear nymphs.
The stocked trout streams in the Shenandoah Valley are all high and off color right now but they are fishable. Don't hesitate to add split shot to help your nymphs and streamers get to the bottom. Tungsten Bead Head Marauders and Tungsten Jigged Head Hares Ear nymphs should help you get to the bottom.
