These Parachute Black ants are productive on both spring creeks and freestone streams all across the country. Ants are a natural food source for many trout throughout the summer so I usually keep several patterns in my fly box. Early spring and summer I use a size 14 but by the end of the summer I switch down to the size 18 when the water levels are lower on the native brook trout streams. If I have trouble seeing this fly on the stream I use the Mr. Rapidan Ant which is much easier for me to locate.
